Social Sound Off: The Shoe Fits
By Nicholas J. Walz

On Saturday, we asked our readers to sound off: which custom US Open style gets the highest grade? Based on your responses, Roger Federer’s footwear ran away with the vote. The Swiss donned a pair of custom Nike Zoom Vapor 9 AJ3 tennis sneakers during his first-round match, co-created and inspired by NBA legend Michael Jordan. Others looks receiving support were Serena Williams’ cheetah print dress and Milos Raonic’s one-sleeved appearance. A popular write-in candidate was Novak Djokovic’s Uniqlo gear.

Here’s a sampling of your feedback:

Irene Honig-Cowley: “#Betterer Federer of course – class act from head to toe.”

Ivan Reyes: “Roger's the best but Raonic is selling the [heck] out of that sleeve has been looking epic all year.”

Matt Mossberg: “[Definitely] going to try and get some of those shoes if they come in other colors. Never had a pair of Nike tennis shoes … these look like they can take some thrashing.”

Thanks to all who weighed in and made great cases for their favorite players. Social Sound Off, exclusive to USOpen.org, will post a new question each day for the most passionate tennis fans in the world to answer. Stay tuned tonight at 10 p.m. ET for our next Social Sound Off question – we’ll post your answers the following afternoon.
