Former US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro has officially withdrawn from the 2014 US Open, citing an injury to his left wrist.
The 25-year-old Argentine, who won the 2009 US Open, has not played a match on tour since February and had surgery to repair the wrist in March. He also withdrew four years ago before the 2010 US Open in advance of his title defense due to an injury in his right wrist.
He is currently ranked No. 11 in the world. Simone Bolelli of Italy will take del Potro’s place in the main draw.
